I love Fridays! I love the weekend. I love the idea of Friday. I love Friday 5.
I love sharing all these good things that keep showing up to support our commitment to making ourselves and our world better.
Friday means more health and happiness and ease and more opportunities to FEEL GOOD.
So, here are five things I found useful, interesting, entertaining and/or helpful this week.
My new e-book is ready and waiting for you! It’s called On Day 22: Optimal Health for the Rest of Your Life. In it, I share ten strategies to help you optimize your health and eliminate the hassle of getting older. You know what I’m talking about!
Grass fed meat delivery is a thing!!!!
It’s not always easy to find grass fed meats and when you do, the prices will definitely give you pause. Bit if you’re going to eat meat, it’s really the only choice in terms of health. The grain-fed stuff is toxic, even if it’s organic.
Good news! This week I heard about two options to make it easier to eat the good stuff. And cheaper.
Option one is Butcher Box. It’s a subscription service. Because what can’t you subscribe to these days? It’s $129/month, which works out to $13 – $18/pound. Okay, that’s not much cheaper, but if you have to drive an hour to get to a source, like I did when I was working in Greenwood, SC, then it may be worth it.
At any rate, they have a great compare/contrast article on the benefits of grass fed v grain fed beef that’s free and worth reading.
Option two is Zaycon Fresh. It’s more like an old-style co-op where you meet in the church parking lot to pick up your crunchy granola order. Only it’s grass fed meat, not granola. And it’s cheap! In the $3 to $8/pound range.
You have to plan ahead and have some serious freezer space, but they offer a variety of things, from beef to wild caught salmon. And did I mention, it’s cheap?
In the realm of getting a good night’s sleep, good news from Apple. If you’re running iOS 9, the new version has something called Night Shift. It blocks the blue light coming from your screens so if you must stare at a screen after dark, your body won’t continue to think that sleep is for wimps.
Here’s their blurb:
Do you have a body that needs maintenance?
Well, at the Trail Dames Summit, I took some great classes. One was called Hike Long, Hike Strong and was taught by a delightful young woman named Becca Wroten of Haka Fitness in Lakeland, Florida.
There’s not a lot of hiking in Florida, the land of romantic walks on the beach. But Becca is a movement specialist and what she shared was good information for anyone who has a body to maintain. So, for everyone, basically.
I have a background in yoga. And physical therapy. I know how important it is to stay flexible, especially as we get older. And yet–confession time–I skip it more often than I care to admit.
So, Becca inspired me to get back on the program. In the class she shared some down & dirty stretches, which she shares, for free, as videos on the Haka Fitness website. She also shares some great videos on foam rolling done right.
And dang if she doesn’t have a recipe for Carrot Cake Balls, too.
I haven’t tried them, yet I totally ran to the store to get carrots and walnuts so I could whip up a batch. Top Ten, Y’all! Top Ten in the yum department.
I’m totally fan-girling right now, if you couldn’t tell.
Oh my gosh, I wish I’d written this post. I didn’t, but Austin Kleon is speaking for me when he wrote about finding his bliss station (and then alerted me to it last week on my birthday). Twilight zone.
Here’s one of my bliss stations. (The other one is a bed and it wasn’t made. Oops.)
I’m curious. Where and/or when is your bliss station? Leave a comment and tell us how you know you’re in your bliss station.
And above all, enjoy your Friday!
